These are only some of the benefits of membership in HCRW.
Heartline Newsletter
Our electronic newsletter Heartline comes out six times a year and contains informative articles on the craft of writing, member news, and contest information. Submissions from RWA members are encouraged and should be submitted by e-mail to the newsletter editor.
Mailing List
We have an electronic mailing list available to members only where we carry on writing discussions, organize extra-curricular social events, announce member news, and give out contest information. If you join our chapter and provide an e-mail address, our online services coordinator will add you so you can enjoy this benefit, subject to List Rules.
Critique Groups
HCRW provides a critique group and partner matching service. Contact the critique group coordiantor for more information!
Query Critique Loop
The query critique loop is dedicated to perfecting the query letter for that all-important first impression. Members post their queries for critique by the group. For more information, simply ask for Jenna Black at our next meeting.
Synopsis Critique Loop
The synopsis critique email group lets you submit a synopsis up to 5 double-spaced pages and get critiques from other HCRW members. This has been extremely useful since it lets you "try" out a synopsis before sending it off to an editor or agent. This group was a spin-off of the wildly successful query critique group, which really increased the success rate of query submissions for members who participated. For more information, ask for Amy Padgett at our next meeting.
Library
HCRW has a library of audiotapes and how-to articles related to romance writing, including handouts from RWA national conferences, regional workshop presentations, and talks by editors and agents. Visit the library.
Book in a Week (BiaW)
Have you ever felt "alone" writing day in and day out? For the first week of every month, you don't have to be! BiaW is a group of cyber-friends of struggling HCRW writers (just like you!) writing frantically from first Saturday of the month to the Friday before the HCRW meeting. Every night of BiaW, report your page totals to Carol Strickland and she'll announce the totals at the meeting.

Christine Hyatt Service Award
The HCRW service award was established in 1997 to recognize members who have given outstanding support to the chapter. Any member can nominate any other member in good standing for this award by sending the name and the reasons for the nomination to the Awards Committee. The only people who cannot be nominated are the current president and past winners. See the list of past winners. |
