Program:
What Barbara says about voice:
Whether I’m creating a secondary teen character with anxiety or breathing life into a male protagonist with PTSD, character is my thing. I’m especially drawn to dark, quirky characters.
In this presentation, I’ll talk about my character research methods, how I excavate characters, how I drill down into their emotional layers and relationships to find gold, and how I edit their voices. (Spoiler alert: I edit by character.)
My aim will be to share ideas on building powerful characters with distinct and memorable voices. Because you want everyone to fall in love with your characters, right? (And yes, that includes the grumpy ones.)
